RECIPES

GLOP
This well-known Recipe is useful as a convalescent diet, for weaning kittens, for lactating queens, or just for that occasion when your cat is having a fussy food day.
· Dissolve 1 packet (10gms) of unflavoured Gelatin in 250mls boiling water. Leave to cool.
· 250mls Goats milk (or Evaporated milk)
· 2 egg yolks (discard the white, or make meringues!)
· 2 Tablespoons hi-calorie REAL Mayonnaise
· 2 Tablespoons plain Yoghurt
· 2 teaspoons Corn syrup
· 1 capsule of Acidophilus
· Pet vitamins (Anivite) Plus
Combine Mixture to cooled Gelatin and place in the refrigerator where it can be kept for 7 days. The mixture will gel as it cools and can be scooped out as required. Warm slightly in microwave before feeding. Do not return reheated mixture into main supply. Mixture can also be poured into an ice-cube tray and frozen until needed.

Mum's Casserole

Although our cats free-graze all day on Premium cat biscuits, we also offer high-quality tinned cat food as well as snacks such as Fish, Tuna in Spring Water, Grated Cheese and Fresh Steak Mince. After much experimentation, I have finally come up with a mixture of my own that everyone of my cats and kittens love, and lick their plates clean. The only members of our animal family that do not like this mix would be our two large Rough Coated Collies. Usually if the cats leave any food on their plates, the dogs are allowed to "finish off". With this mixture, they have been missing out big-time.
Keep in mind that these portions are enough to feed my cats for one evening meal. It can easily be made in either smaller portions or frozen in individual meal sizes.

· 1kg Fresh Lean Steak Mince (Raw)
· 3 scoops of long-grain Rice (cooked)
· 1/2kg cooked Pumpkin
· 2 Egg Yolks
· Cat Vitamins - Anivite Plus
· 2 Desertspoons Flax Seed Oil (Omega-3)
· 2 Desertspoons Plain Yoghurt
· 2 large tins Whiskas Beef & Chicken Casserole

HINTS AND TIPS

Identifying Kittens
If you have two similar kittens in a litter and need to identify a particular one that has been sold, paint one or two of its toenails with a coloured nail polish. Remember to inform the new owner that you have done this, just in case the kitten is entered in a show before it wears off!

Hair Dryer
To avoid upset at bath-time, get your cat used to the sound of the hairdryer by having the cat sit with you in the bathroom, turn on the dryer and use the hot air to chase a table-tennis ball or piece of paper around the floor.

Birthing Box
Use incontinence pads for the birthing box to keep the Mother cat nice and dry.

Pants for the Boys
To allow your stud cat special time to socialise in the family home, try Pampers disposable nappies with a hole cut out for the tail.

Sore Eye
Place one teabag in half a cup of boiling water and allow to cool. Bathe the eye gently with cotton wool. Repeat as necessary. If the condition persists or shows signs of infection, consult your Veterinary Surgeon immediately.

Diarrhoea
Mix Slippery Elm with wet cat food daily. Again, check with your Veterinary Surgeon if condition persists more than 24 hours.

CATNIP RECIPE

Pick catnip (and flower heads) and leave to dry out naturally. Rinse catnip and lay out to dry on a paper towel. When dry, place on baking paper in the oven on low until crumbly or alternatively place in the microwave and cook on medium, one minute at a time until leaves are crisp. Store in an airtight container or bag and use sparingly.

RAINBOW BRIDGE

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.

The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance.

His bright eyes are intent; his eager body quivers.

Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again.

The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together….
